Girl with Grit Program origins were in 2018, and by 2020, it was a full-force 501c3 grassroots nonprofit offering solutions and advocacy for community education and project-based learning in areas that evidence showed a “gap in skills” for youth, with an emphasis on gaps that hinder girls.

One of our focuses is the large gap that exists in the skilled trades, only 4% of that workforce is women and there is a looming labor shortage. With that, we really have centered on teaching girls and young women nontraditional skills, such as tools, safety, materials, and skilled trades jobs, where research has shown evidence based inequalities.

We teach these practical skills in a fun atmosphere with engaging hands-on projects and advocate them as necessary skills for all.

CREATIVE CONSTRUCTION

Girl with Grit provides workshops and advocacy to help fill gaps many youths face when it comes to basic knowledge of construction, such as tools, safety, and the joy of building with your hands. Through fun, confidence building, and hands-on projects, Girl with Grit introduces these concepts along with areas of the workforce, like the skilled trades and design.

Students gain knowledge about careers in skilled trades and learn practical trade skills everyone needs to know in a creative, interactive, and empowering way.

This class is a hit for anyone that likes to build, create, or design.

SKILLS TAUGHT:

Introduction to Tools! Students get hands-on practice with various common household tools.

Safety and Personal Protective Equipment! Students will learn all about staying safe when working with tools and the personal protective equipment OSHA recommends.

Learn about jobs! Students will learn about jobs where they earn a high wage, they get to be more active, and work with tools.

Project-based Learning! Create a birdhouse “mansion” with tiling, solar lights, a water pump, and a little creative flair. (Five Facets: Carpentry, Painting, Tile, Electrical, Plumbing).

Get Creative! Learn helpful skills like painting and enjoy the elements of art and design that go with the finishing touches.

Girls earn their Girl Scouts Woodworking Badge with this workshop!

LIFE SKILLS: BASICS OF ADULTING

Over the course of our Life Skills Workshops, students learn the basics of adulting and close evidence-based gaps (see our study run by UNICEF), while learning through practical and fun hands-on projects.

Our Life Skills Workshop span information from tools to tires to emergencies to entrepreneurship and creating a budget – all with the goal to leave a lasting impression and introduction to adulting in a fun and safe way.

Learn tools and safety! Build a small construction themed project and learn about tools. This module is geared towards growing handiness with tools.

Automotive Care! Learn the basics of automotive care and vehicle maintenance – such as checking fluids and signs of needed maintenance, and more.

Emergencies! We will cover how to handle emergencies including how to handle a flat tire, jump a battery, students will get hands-on use with a fire extinguisher, and learn hands-only CPR.

Financial literacy and business! We will get a preview into financial literacy so they can understand a basic budget, principles of financial health, and learn the basics of business.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Home Emergencies! Students will get hands-on use with a fire extinguisher and will learn how to deal with various emergencies from clogged toilets to bursting pipes.

American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED Certification! Youth will learn how to perform CPR and use an AED and be American Red Cross Certified by the end of this workshop.

Automotive Emergencies! Learn the basics of how to handle roadside emergencies including what to do with a flat tire, how to handle a dead battery, and other roadside emergencies.

SCHOOL AND PRIVATE WORKSHOPS

SCHEDULE WITH US

We offer our Girl with Grit Workshops and eight, 2 hour trademarked Girl with Grit Courses in Schools, for Girl Scout Troops, in various community centers, or in private residences.

We also sell our Curriculum and provide Schools with Presentations, Curriculum, Projects, and Speakers for youth and girls needing to learn about nontraditional skills and workforce opportunities for girls and young women.
