1934 Chevy Truck Project
Girl with Grit Program seeks one large annual project for a community to work along youth. Our Founder, Blythe Zemel, sought out Mel Ellenwood’s 1934 Chevy Truck for a community to restore with kids.
The Girl with Grit Truck Project has won international support from car builders, sponsors, and the auto community.
Backing this project is a strong Truck Support Team including David Ankin from ToyMakerz on History Channel, Dwayne Mattox from Fast Society, MN Outlaw Customs, 1 of One Customs, Bryan Dagel – Rat Rod Magazine; with support coming from even across the ocean with Sam Hard from Hard Up Garage.
TO BUILD THE FUTURE TAKES A COMMUNITY.
The passion that brings us all together as a community is youth outreach. Skills and a strong sense of community are vital to our children. Once in a shop space, this will be an annual project for our youth and community. We estimate it will be a 12 month long project where students will learn fabrication, mechanics, upholstery, auto paint, patina restoration, sponsorship, and so much more.
TRUCK LEAD TEAM
Briana Huhn has been a welder/fabricator for 11 years across multiple industries. In addition to welding, Briana shares her love of the trades with children through a Minnesota based nonprofit, Big Ideas Inc. Her main goal is to help end the stigma that the trades are second rate. Her metalworking skills earned her a spot on Motortrend’s ‘Bitchin Bootcamp’ and Discovery Channel’s ‘Monster Garage’.
Founder of Girl with Grit Program, Blythe seeks to get youth more hands-on opportunities and access to both equipment and skills. Her goal is to teach both girls and boys that they can do anything as long as they put their hearts, hands, and minds behind it.
Ashley Robertson comes from Reidsville, NC. A Shop Assistant at ToyMakerz, Ashley helped a large group of girls pull the previous motor out of the truck. From that point forward, she’s been intertwined with our program. ToyMakerz can be seen on History Channel.
Staci Andrews led the best car show in Boerne, TX. Staci and her husband, Maurice have provided a huge amount of support for Girl with Grit Program. Maurice is owner of Hot Rod Garage and has hosted many of our events and workshops.
